(This, for the dramatic effect,I’m going to do in a journal format. Renata looking back at her past)
I was born on one of those rare bright sunny days in mid-march, in the beautiful town of Venice, Italy during the Italian renaissance. Our family (made of my Mother, Father, two sisters, and I) lived in a pretty average house, which I found the best in all the land.
At the age of fifteen, my parents had me arranged to marry a 26 year-old man I barely knew, which frustrated me, due to the fact I noticed a man(whom I later found out was Aro), keeping an eye on me. My thoughts were that he more then liked me, for some reason...
The day of my wedding arrived a few years later. A late marriage for a female, during that time period. I was almost nineteen. It was late February, and I had been dreading the day... My parents had gotten me a satin gown, which I would’ve accepted happily were I not doing something I immensely didn’t want to do after talking to the man who I was supposed to marry... He didn’t seem kind, gracious, or wanting to marry me for any reason. Not commenting, or really talking. The man I was destined to marry, were it not for Aro turning me, was a complete... ‘jerk’ as you would call him.
“Renata, mio bella bambina!(Renata, my beautiful little girl)” I heard Papa call happily. I didn’t want to make them upset...Or break their heart..but their had to be someway to get out of this...
I took a look at all of the options. And only saw one possible one.
Death. That was it... Suicide or something close to it...
Again. I thought of the possible ways to cause a quick, painless death, then realized there weren’t any possibilities.
I would have to get married, without complaint...
The minister was about to say the last lines, when everything was in flames...
Someone else didn’t like the idea of us getting married, either. I was relieved, I could die, and not get married. Not at all by me causing it.
I watched as others perished in the abrupt flames, my vision grew blurry, and I felt something pierce through my neck...
The pain it inflicted I will never forget!! It felt as if the strongest acid imaginable was pouring through my veins, I couldn’t see well, but I could make out the figure of a man, his lips against my neck, and he was biting!!!
What felt like decades later, I woke up to see Aro, and was shocked.
Thinking I was in heaven, or the alternative-hell. It was hard to believe as he explained to me that I was a vampire, something I never thought existed...
Years later, I began to accept the fact I wasn’t human. My family was dead. Yet, I was alive... Being shown the ways of the vampire.
I now look to Aro as...a father figure. And will protect him with my life.
