Chapter four
I sighed and looked out the window. The sun had set and now bright stars dotted the dark sky. I took a bag of ships off the food tray then stared out the window. I wonder if I will get to meet anyone like me. I unbuckled my seat belt and stood up. I started to walk to the back of the plane, but Rowè grabbed my arm and stopped me. “Where are you going?” he asked.
“To the bathroom” I replied, there of a bit of anger in my voice. I pulled my arm away and looked at him. I tried to read his thoughts, but I couldn’t hear a thing from inside his head. “Why can’t I read your mind?” I questioned
Rowè chuckled then answered, “Because, my dear, there are things in my mind you don’t need to know, so I protected my mind from you.”
I growled. How can I know if this guy is a threat or not if I can’t hear what he is really thinking? I turned and walked to the bathroom. I locked the door and looked in the mirror. Who am I? Am I just a thing to be studied? Can I not defend myself? Why do I need that man to protect me? I sat down on the floor, closed my eyes and tried to figure out what was happening to me and what was going to happen to me. I had no idea what was waiting for me in the near future. Would it be something good, or something bad? Just then, I heard Rowè call my name. I sighed, stood up, and left the bathroom. I slowly walled back to my seat and sat down. Rowè watched me for a few seconds then turned his gaze forward again. I leaned my chair back and closed my eyes. Soon, I fell asleep, only to be tormented by nightmares.
When I woke up, I saw a small box with holes in the top by my feet. I forgot all about my nightmares and picked up the box. I heard a soft meow from inside the box. I looked over at Rowè, he was grinning and looking at me. I carefully opened the box and inside there was a very small kitten. The kitten was a female, she had dark brown fur and light brown paws. I looked back at Rowè and smiled. He got me a kitten. Why would he give me a kitten?
“Do you like her?” Rowè asked. “The kitten was subject to cruel experiments, but the people who did it to her thought she was going to die, so they threw her out. I found her a few weeks ago and nursed her back to health.”
“What kind of things did they do to her?” I asked. I looked down at the kitten; she was so young and small. She was a little bigger than the size of my hand.
“Look carefully at her back” Rowè said. I turned the kitten over so I could see her back. I gasped when I saw a pair of dark gray wings. The kitten was mixed with the DNA of a bird.
“H-how…why did they do this to her?” I asked. I was in complete shock. How could someone turn a kitten into a half-cat, half-bird creature? A better question; why?
“I don’t know, but maybe, she and you were meant to be together. I want you to take care of her. I have some soft kitten food in the storage room, why don’t you think of a name for her and I will go get the food?” Rowè said. I smiled and nodded. He stood up and walked to the back of plane. I looked down at the small kitten and head her in my arms. She looked up at me with her bright, golden eyes.
“Mya…Gya…Ryuya…..Tia….” I mumbled. I tried to think of the perfect name. It was hard to think of a good name, then it hit me, Siya, that would be her name; Siya. The small kitten purred as I said her new name. Her eyes glowed with delight. In her eyes I could see the pain of her past, but I could see her joy and trust. I was glad that I could change her sad, painful life to a happy enjoyable one. Siya stretched out her wings and flapped them a few times. She rose into the air and licked my face. I smiled and petted her soft delicate fur. Siya opened her mouth a huge yawn then lowered herself into my arms and fell asleep.
Rowè walked back to the main room and looked at me with Siya asleep in my arms. “So, did you think of a name for her?” He asked. “Yeah, her name is Siya.” I said and gently ran my hand down her back, careful not to wake her. “We will arrive in Derote, Paffre in a few minutes.” Rowè said. “Gather your things and get ready for a long walk. Make sure you were a thick coat, it is very cold.” Rowè said and started to pack his things and got two big hiking packs out of a small storage room. He gave one to me and strapped it to my back. I almost fell over it was so heavy. All of my stuff and things for Siya was packed into the bag. I got a blanket, made a pouch like thing and tied it around my waist so I could hold Siya and still have my hand free.
The plane landed in a small clearing in a large forest. The sun had set and dull stars filled the sky. Rowè lead me off the plane and to a small path that lead deep into the forest. I stayed silent as Rowè started up the small path, he held branches back so I could pass then made sure no foot prints were left behind. Rowè was very careful not to leave any trace of them being there.
I heard a twig snap behind me. I knew it wasn’t Rowè; he was in front of me. I thought it was just an animal, so I didn’t bother looking back. I heard another twig snap and this time I glanced back. Just as I turned my head, I saw a dark figure and a dart flying straight at me. Next thing I know, I was on the ground. Stay awake…I can’t pass out now…What is happening? Everything is turning dark…no…I can’t…
When I woke, everything was dark, I could barely see. I could faintly make out a figure standing behind bars. Am I the one in the cell or is the other person? My arms were chained behind me and hooked to the wall. My legs were linking together by icy, thick metal. “Turn on the lights in cell 7-13” the figure yelled. Bright, white lights flashed on; then intense light made it hard for me to see. “Welcome Lyria Mounda. Glad you could join us. I am sure we will make great use of you” the figure said delightfully. Fearfully I asked, “W-who are you? Why did you take me? Why do you need me?” The man chuckled, and then answered, “I am the servant of the Prime Leader of Paffre. I am not going to tell you why or what we will use you for, the answers will come in time. For now, you will do as I say. Don’t bother trying to use any of your little ‘powers’ we gave you a shot that neutralizes all powers.” The man said. It seemed like he enjoyed seeing the fear in my eyes. He looks so happy and evil; cruel, he looked cruel. I watched him as he opened the cell and walked in then bent down right beside me. He was so close to me I could feel his breath on my face. He looked me in my eyes. His eyes were dark brown, almost black. They looked so cold and murderous, but also happy and entertained. His smile was smug has he unchained me from the wall then put hand cuffs and ankle cuffs on me. The cuffs were heavy and cold so it was hard for me to walk. He pulled me up and led me out of the cell and down a long hallway. I almost tripped several times; he just chuckled and kept walking.
“You are going to see the Prime Minster.” The man said, “After you speak to him you will be taken to the cell with the others.”
