Chapter Three
I quickly got over the fact that my parents were dead. They hated me. Why should I care if they are dead? I pushed the grief away and tried to focus on what to do next. In the sky, thick, dark clouds covered the sky and rain started to fall to the ground. The box I was in was getting wet and the water was seeping through. There goes my shelter. The rain started pouring harder. I have to find a new place to stay. I get out of the box and put the coat hood on, then I run. I ran past many stores and building, they were all closed. I was soaking wet now, the water went through the coat, through the stupid hospital dress and onto my skin. I shivered from the cold. I had no place to go and the rain only came down harder. I could barely see the rain was so thick. I heard thunder in the sky and saw flashes of lightning. I heard a load zap, followed by a crashing sound. A tree was hit by lightning and it fell. I heard another zap; it was closer to me this time. I started to feel lightheaded and weak. I kept running. There was another zap of lightning. It was so close it knocked me off my feet and into a puddle. Was the lightning chasing me? No…that’s just stupid, why would I even think that? My vision started to black out, the last thing I saw was a large figure looming over me.
I woke up on a small bed with a thick towel and several blankets on me. My head was pounding and I couldn’t think straight. I felt sick to my stomach and I was still cold. I looked around the room and saw clothes on a chair; they looked my size, and a bottle of Tylenol on the table next to the bed. I tried to remember how I got here, but the only thing I remember is seeing a person standing over me. Did that person take me here? I looked over at the door when I heard the door knob turn and it slowly open. A tall, muscular man walked in. “Ah, good, you are awake, Lyria” he said
“H-how do you know my name?” I stuttered. Who is this man, and how does he know my name? Why am I here? Did he take me here? The man had short black hair and he had a scar running down his cheek. He wore a large black jacket; it looked like he had weapons under it. I pulled the blankets up to my face. “W-what…what do you want with me? Why am I here?” I asked. My voice was shaking from fear. I completely forgot about my telekinesis and that I could raise him into the air then run.
“I am Rowè, and I have been watching your case for awhile now” the large man replied. “I am here to protect you”
“Protect me? Protect me from what? And what do mean my case? Where am I?” I asked.
“Protect you from the people that want to use you. Did you notice how no one was chasing you when you left the hospital? They were watching you to see what you would do, but you are safe here. I am from the HTW, Hidden Talent watch, I was assigned to protect you and make sure your powers aren’t abused. The people at the mental hospital have created a machine that sucks that power and life force out of people like you. We don’t know why they are doing this, but for now, we have to protect people like you.” Rowè explained. “No more questions, you need to change your clothes and then we have to move to a new place. Your clothes are on the chair” Rowè turned and walked out of the room.
I got up out of the bed and picked up the clothes. There was a pair of dark blue jeans and red and orange top. I quickly changed my clothes. Can I really trust this man? What he is one of the people trying to hurt me? What is with this HTW thing? Are there really others like me?
I walked over to the door, opened it and walked out. Rowè was waiting for me. He led me to a small plane that was just outside the building. It was a very high-tech plane with many computers and other technology on it. There were four chairs, two for the pilot and co-pilot and then two for passengers. Rowè told me to sit in one of the chairs and buckle up. Rowè went to the back of the plane and when he came back he had a cart full of food. He said this would be a two-day airplane ride. He sat down in the chair next to me buckled his seat belt. Then, the plane took off to an unknown destination.
